Hi out there
I have some problems with an installation of Windows 2000
servers. We have combined an database & printserver - and
some applikation servers which has connected all printers
from the printserver. As far as I can se will every
printjob on the application servers cause the driver to be
updated for some reaseon - see this eventid from the
applications server:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Print
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20
Date: 05-12-2003
Time: 09:54:56
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Description:
Printer Driver HP LaserJet 4100 PCL 6 for Windows NT x86
Version-3 was added or updated. Files:- HPBF042G.DLL,
HPBF042E.DLL, HPBF042I.PMD, HPBF042I.HLP, HPBF042F.DLL,
HPBF042I.DLL, HPBF042J.DLL, HPBF042K.DLL, HPBAFD32.DLL,
HPBFTM32.DLL, HPDCMON.DLL, HPBF042H.DLL.

As far as I can see this driver is already installed on
the application server so this shouldn't happen - or ??
How does the print-spool system decide to update the
driver ?? How are the versions compared because I think
the cause for this problems could be here.

Kind regards

Hi Alan

When you ask "the print driver is one that shipped on the
CD?" I must say - I don't know. That driver we normally
ignore and use the newest published by HP. But for the
range of HP printer in the 4xxx family we have made a
collection of drivers which we normally hasn't any
problems with so it is not the newest driver we are using
on this server. But - this problem we see here looks to me
as if "something" in the versions-check fails so that the
driver allways is updated - how is this version-check of
the drivers implemented ??

Kind regards
Thomas Iwang

The files that are listed are none that Microsoft shipped. If you say setup
a test printer that uses the HP Laserjet 4 driver (it will still print to
the 4000 fine), do the drivers get updated all the time?
