Hi there...hopefully someone has seen this, or something similar, before.

On boot, I received:
______________________________________

Event ID 1000 UserEnv

RegLoad Key failed. Return value An I/O operation initiated by the registry
failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, write out, or flush,
one of the files that contain the systems image of the registry. For C:\
Documents and Settings\Administrator.Dell1-6\ntuser.dat

Windows cannot load the locally stored profile.

Windows has backed up this users profile. Windows will automatically try to
use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

_______________________________________

And then Win2K loads a "Temporary" profile in which no settings can be
saved.

I think ntuser.dat is corrupted to the point where I can't even copy it
(hangs in a loop), but I was able to rename it. I then copied an older
ntuser.dat from the Repair folder to C:\ Documents and
Settings\Administrator.Dell1-6.bak\, having been renamed as mentioned above.

After reboot, there are no more errors, but it always uses this "Temporary"
profile, even if I remove the .bak.

Any assistance in getting it to use my "real" profile would be much
appreciated.

You may want to try this:
Go to the user manager (lusrmgr.msc in run). Select the user and go to his
properties. Then go the profile tab, and explicitly specify the path to the
old profile.

P.S: Ensure that the old profile has no ntuser.dat issues..!!

I didn't have access to the newsgroup for awhile, so ended up renaming/copying the Profiles (wasn't pretty but I got my settings,
etc. back). It looks like using user manager would have been much easier, so thanks for the reply...hopefully I won't need it for
awhile.<s>
