Event 20 when printing

I've recently applied Service Pack 3 to my Windows XP Pro installation and
I'm getting Event 20 listed in the eventlogs every time I print a document.
From the time it takes to start printing, it would seem the drivers are not
being re-installed, just the event 20 message being raised, although there is
a longer than usual delay (about 10 seconds) before printing starts,
presumably to write the event message.

Does anyone have any idea's on how to stop these messages from occurring or
what may be causing windows to think it needs to re-install/update the
drivers. I've tried re-installing the printer drivers without success. The
printer is attached directly to the PC via USB cable.

verify that unidrv.dll and unidrvui.dll are the same versions. Make sure
the BUD file for the printer is not 0 bytes (need to log in as admin and
change a printer setting).

Even though you are not installing the driver, the spooler has access to the
installation files in
\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hp_hardwareID_for_your_device

Thanyou for this information. The DLL files were different versions but they
appear to be that way in the service pack.

C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\unidrv.dll 0.3.6001.22116
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\unidrvui.dll 0.3.6000.20691

I've uninstalled the printer software and drivers again and found the HP
Uninstaller is not cleaning up everything - (yet another duff uninstaller
from HP). After manually clearing up the remains and re-installing the
printer software, it's all working fine again.

Thankyou for your pointers.

Yes, I confirmed that these are the file versions that are shipped on SP3.
I forwarded your posts to the group who releases the service packs. I did
find one KB article that has a bunch of files for some European fonts
including matched unidrv* binaries.
