Is it possible to connect two computers with one having
Win98 OS and the other having WinXP OS.
I am going to use 2 No. standard ethernet cards with RJ45
jacks and Cat 5 cable.
As I am new to networks I am looking for any help in
setting this system up?
As an alternative, I have heard that 'Wireless'
connections can be had? Is this something to look at?
Regards
Gerard.

Yes, it is possible. Suggest you do a little reading about this first,
e.g. Help articles about networking. These articles lay out what you
need to do.

For wireless, the major vendors (Linksys and Netgear, for example)
provide lots of "how to's" on their web sites.

Read.

I have several computers connected together. two are
win98 and one is winxp. I have different manf. cards in
each. I just upgraded to a wirless router for my laptop
and it is neat. I use tcip protocal for all network
communications. If you connect to the internet, use a
firewall like zonealarm to block incoming and spyware.

I recently installed a Linsys wireless 54g in my 98OS laptop and established a network with my xp desktop. Each computer works great but I could not see the shared XP folders from the 98 box. After much head banging, I upgraded the 98LT to 2000 - but to no avail - still can't see the XP DT. I can ping both and the XP can see the 2000 LT but not the other way around.

Any ideas Ron - sounds like you might have crossed this bridge and from what I can see - a lot of other folks have the same issue.

Regards,
Ben
