ethernet card

I bought a ethernet card from gateway to put on my
computer so I could go online. Last month i upgrated my
computer from ME to xp. now when i put the card in it
caused my computer to shut down, but when i take the card
out the computer starts working normal again the card to a
10/100

Call Gateway and send the card back.
