Anyone know how to stop our server from broadcasting the Protocol Type
0x886D Ethernet Broadcast packets over the LAN? This happens EVERY SINGLE
SECOND the server is up.

The packets are all the same and look like this in the sniffer:

Flags: 0x00
Status: 0x00
Packet Length: 68
Ethernet Header
===========
Destination: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF Ethernet Broadcast
Source: 00:03:47:3B:F5:1C
Protocol Type: 0x886D
Packet Data: (this field is blank)
Data: (50 bytes)
Frame Check Sequence: 0x00000000

Thanks in advance,

Rodger

Thanks for your reply Shalom. Yes, this is a dual Intel NIC with both
channels setup as a Team, both connected to the same LAN - renders 200Mb
full duplexed to the LAN.

Dear Rodger,

Please Refer to this Intel SB page

http://support.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-016895.htm

It seems these packets are actually some heartbeat packets used in
maintaining a successful "team" as you put it. The Page says you may
turn these "probes" off in a near capacity network, is yours one? The
page provides links to some manuals which may help you turn this feature
off, so have a look and the best of luck.
