ASUS P4P800 deluxe, a P4 2.6GHz 800MHz FSB, two 256M
DDR 400 rams, and a 350W power supply.
From my old sytem:
Two 40G hard drives, a floppy drive, a cd reader, a cd writer,
and an MX420 PCI graphics card.
Installed XP pro.

Everything works fine except connection to the internet.
Installed software for the Analog Devices audio from the ASUS
CD to have sound. Installed all the drivers and software for the
3COM network adapter from the same CD, but, no success.

So, I have put a PCI network card (HP EN1207D) from my old
system into one of the PCI slots and that is how I am connected now!

Isn't the 3Com adapter supposed to be enough for connection?
What am I doing wrong?
Please help this newbie!

Thanks,

Navid

Was it in the device manager? Enabled in the bios etc...

There are 3 devices under Network adapters in the device manger:
1394 Net Adapter, 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940), and the one
for my HP PCI card.

The only related thing I can find in the bios is under Obnoard Devices
Config, which is OnBoard LAN, which was enabled by default and I did not
change that. Under that option, there is also
"OnBoard LAN Boot ROM" which was disabled by default. I tried that both
enabled and disabled.
Neither fixes the problem.

The problem is solved :o). I had to turn off the cable modem
and turn it back on while connected to the computer.

Yep, you left out you were using a cable modem directly conected to your
machine (you should get a router..). The cable modem was looking for the
mac address of your old nic card...

I use a firewall (Zonealarm). All the ports are reported to be stealth
on this site. https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
Is a router better?
