How long should it take to load active directory onto a
win2000 server with 13 users.

The only major resources to share is one folder and
printers.

Help.

If the server is already setup, then you just need to run dcpromo and do
some configuration. It all depends, but with all user configuration it
should take about 2 hours (not inslucing installing windows server if not
already).
But you must know that there is more to it than just running dcpromo... you
have to plan it, implement it and later document it and mantain it.

Thank you sir for your thoughts.

The server is running but users are having problems
logging in and when they do, the network printers cannot
be accessed.

We've spent 'too much time' already trying to troubleshoot
the problem and I thought the simpliest thing to do would
be to just reload the active directory with one user
profile as a base setup.

Does that sound like a good strategy to you?

One other thought I had was to run some sort of tool from
the CD that might find and repair errors in the
directory. Is there a program that will do this and also
suggest ways to modify conflicts, etc., that it may find.

If you can post the errors you're getting (Event ID#s from the clients and
DC), maybe we can diagnose it for you. There's really not that much to AD's
functionality and basics, especially in a small environment.

If you can also post an ipconfig /all and let us know the AD domain name,
that will also give us a clear picture to better help. This way you can
avoid a reinstall and get this thing working.

What we'll be looking for is the domain name format, the DNS servers being
used, your errors, and the Primary DNS Suffix. That usually gives us a
headstart in finding out what's going on.

Thanks
