For those who need to reinstall everything, it is a good idea to maintain a complete inventory of the system. Sort of a checklist of everything you have on your computer, software and hardware wise. There is a little program to download and installs quickly as well. Belarc Advisor
Not only it is a good tool for your own computer but if you are helping anyone with their computer, rather than asking them what they have on their machine and getting a bewildered look, get the nifty program to tell you everything you want to know. I have been using it for a while (about 2 years) and found it to be one of the essentials for any tweaker or system installer.
The program is just 806 KB's and does more than you could really ask for, including a list of missing windows critical updates. Provided you use the latest version of the program whenever it is updated.
