my epson c62 was working fine with the generic ink cartridges (both bw &
color) i used to replace the original oem cartridges the printer shipped
with. when i installed them i received no errors or warnings or bad
printing results.

today it started whining that the bw cartridge could not be recognized and
needed to be replaced. so i replaced it with another generic, but it's
still whining. during the install wizard funny message-boxes come up with
meaningless fonts as the message.

the cartridges are from voltexx.

i wonder if the generic cartridges are really the problem ..... before i
spend some bucks for an epson cartridge, any one have any ideas ????

is there any part or the printer i should clean with some alcohol?

Use Epson cartridges....! I believe the print head is part of an Epson
cartridge, so the best thing you can do it replace both. One problem with
generic cartridges is that the ink tends to clog.... clogged print heads =
horrible printing if any!

Look at your printer manual to see if you can run a cleaning/maintenance
cycle.. or even a couple of them.

Epson printers are prone to clogging if you don't use them at least once a
week.
