So, im trying to figure out why my kazaa lite isnt doing what it usually
does. And iw as messing around in windows trying to see if maybe there was a
program preventing it from doing searches and downloads when i came to
Windows security center and malware protection.

I have nortons installed in my system. But it also says i have something
called "Eset NOD32 antivirus system 2.70". I dont know what this is, ive
never installed it and i dont want it. But i cant find it in my program
files, i cant find it in the add/remove programs, or anywhere else and theres
no way to shut it off in the security center. It just says ON, and thats it.

So, anyone know what to do or how to get rid of this?

Eset NOD32 is an antivirus program. IMO, a very good program, far superior
to Norton AV.

I have no idea how it got on your computer if you (or another user of your
computer) didn't install it. On my rig, it shows up in the the add/remove
programs and it is located in Program Files\ESET.

First, someone recently must have put NOD32 on your
machine. You indicate version 2.70, the current version
is 2.70.23. So, that install was done recently.
Someone installed it, it didn't get there by magic.

Second, if I were you, I'd remove Norton and keep NOD32.
It's seems rather strange, I know NOD32 will not install when
there are other real-time AV's already installed. I'm quite sure
Norton's setup would have also checked and informed you that
you should first remove NOD32 before setup continues. Most
of the major AV companies do this now. Or, they at lease warn
you to possible conflicts of having two AV's. This is especially
true if you run two AV's in real-time/resident mode.

If you really want to remove the superior AV (NOD32), then you
need to have a closer look at "Programs and Features" in the
Control Panel, it's no longer called "Add and Remove". It should be
listed as "NOD32 antivirus system".

Was your install an upgrade from XP?

Nope, i did a fresh install, had too cause for some reason teh upgrade didnt
like my dvd burner. But i never did a install. Plus, i looked threw my

I don't know what to tell you. NOD32 didn't install on its own.
It had to be downloaded and then the setup executed.

I'm assuming by "fresh install" you mean a format and then
install. There's absolutely no way NOD32 should be there,
it doesn't come with Vista.

What version of Vista are you using? Where did you get it?

Is this a one user system?

-Michael

ya, i reformated and then did a install. I have windows vista ultimate cause
thats what my friend got. and yes, as far as i know im the only one using
this sytem, i dolive alone, unless casper been using it, lol

Sorry if I sound accusatory, but I believe your "friend"
gave you a pirated copy of Ultimate. Vista isn't for
sale in the stores until Tuesday, Jan.30. There are a few ways
to get a legitimate copy now. However, I have a feeling that's
not how you or friend obtained Vista.

The only suggestion I have- wait until Tuesday and buy it.
There may be something wrong with the version you have.
From what you have told me, it really doesn't make much sense.

oh no, the copy he got me was legit. I saw the dvd case and everythign and my
windows also says its verified version. SO i know its a legit

How did he get a retail packaged version of Vista?
As far as I know, no one has had access the the retail
packages. All that has been available are downloads
and cardboard DVD mailers.

i have no idea. All i know is that it had all 4 volumes on it and a legit
serial. He works for bestbuy, so maybe they let the employees buy it ahead of
time. I also knwo they were being sold on ebay, so i have no idea and i dont
ask questions, llol

"4 volumes on it"?
What does that mean?

I'll say this one more time, and I'm not trying to be rude-
If you did a format and install of Vista, there's absolutely
no way that NOD32 got on your computer all by itself.
It doesn't make sense, and I don't know what else to tell
you.

Take care,

Michael

Seems most likely you got a pirated Vista disk.
