The system was working fine until I installed a new PCI
card for wireless. After I put the card in and turned the
machine back on it would get as far as updating ESCD and
stop. I took the card out and restarted and it booted up.
I moved one of the other cards to see if it may have been
just one of the slots and I received the same message. If
I take any PCI card out now when I put it back I will get
the same message and it hangs up at "updating ESCD."
Yes, it happens before Windows starts to load so I am
unable to boot from the CD.
What I found using Google...
If the system displays "Updating ESCD..." and then hangs up the boot
process, either with or without displaying "Success", then there is a
problem with updating the extended system configuration data. This is
probably a problem with an expansion card, especially if you just added one
to the machine. It could also be a problem with the motherboard. You should
troubleshoot this as an expansion card problem, and if this fails,
troubleshoot the motherboard.
What that tells me is that either you are having a motherboard issue
(possible revealed by your adding the card in question or caused by it) or a
BIOS issue. Have you checked for the most current BIOS update?
