Escape Key Cancels File Download

This is really frustrating. I start a long file download ... say 30
minutes to an hour, and I accidentally tap the Esc (escape) key and
the "File Download" dialog disappears without warning! I might be 55
minutes into a 1 hr. download, and then, bingo ... it's gone! I would
expect a courtesy "Do you really want to cancel the download? [Cancel]
[Continue]" at that point. I'm wondering if perhaps there is a
checkbox hidden on some tab of some Control Panel dialog in Windows XP
that can be set to avoid this problem. Anyone aware of such, or any
other workaround???

Many thanks,
<<Henry>>

Hi Henry,

I'm not aware of any "checkboxes" etc. to change that, but I use a download
manager just for that purpose--to resume a download in case the download is
broken or interrupted. The one I use is free, and contains *no spyware*
(unlike some others).

The way to avoid the problem is not to accidentally tap the Esc key.
This is a simple solution. Curt has offered a more complicated one,
which would help when it is necessary to deliberately interrupt a
download.

Hope this helps.
