Errror 797 on new dell computer-dell can't fix - Windows XP prob?

I can't get my modem to work. Dell techs came to replace
and said problem is software. In searching net I'm seeing
loads of problems w/ Error 797 and Windows XP. Microsoft -
pls. send me fix for this problem - I'm out of business
and no one can help!!! Modem has been removed and
reinserted many times. Software has been deleted and
reloaded many times. System restore to early date not
changing anything. Computer keeps going to Comm1 when it
should be looking at Comm3. Can't override when doing
reloads.

1) This is a peer-to-peer newsgroup, /not/ MS tech support.

2) Microsoft does not, cannot and will not assist with OEM (Original
Equipment Manufacturer) installations. You waived the right to MS support
when you purchased OEM - the onus is with the manufacturer (i.e. Dell) to
provide *ALL* support both hardware /and/ software. You will have to pursue
this with Dell as there is nothing that MS can do to assist you.
