Has anyone ever seen the error that pops up when you try
to open an excel spreadsheet after pasting it into PPT
2000? Excel is version 9.0.4402 and powerpoint is
9.0.4527. Office 2000 has SR-1 and SP3 installed. I can
recreate the problem everytime, on a number of machines.
Only one hasnt done it, but they are all the same version.
Actual error is:

"powerpoint cannont start the application required to open
this object. An error occured and this feature is no
longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair?"
(hit yes)

"The server application, source fil, or item cannot be
found, or returned an unknown error. You may need to
reinstall the server application."

when you bring excel back up it tries to repair itself and
asks for the datapro1.msi. We have it on netork drives,
locally on the hard drive and on a CD, and it wont repair
whatever is causing the problem. To get excel to work you
have to use the .exe file from the office2000 folder. If
you reinstall office 2k, it wont error until you try to
open an excel spreadsheet inside powerpoint again.

I'd probably give Microsoft support a call, then.

was correct, but we arent running norton, we are using McAfee, and in the
government environment we are in, we cannot update machines like you would
normally.
I did search most of that site, it was linked off of microsofts powerpoint
page. A few of the powerpoint things I found were only for instances with
ppt 97, which we arent using. We are only using office 2k with SR-1 and
SP3. Ive reinstalled office a million times with and without the SP3, but
we only SR1, which might be the cause. Ive only found one machine that it
doesnt happen on, and this is on over 1000 machines that we support. It
seems to happen on all of them, no matter the user or the version installed.
I cannot find a difference in the one that works and the others that dont.
