Errors on startup

Hi,
I have recently been experiencing startup errors i.e. the
PC would boot to a certain point then freeze on a black
screen (no signal received by the monitor which goes to
sleep after a while).

Having gone through the literature and various
troubleshooters I managed to narrow down the problem to
the video drivers. Uninstalling them in Safe Mode would
bring the PC back to life.

Problem is: I can't successfully reinstall them, or any
other nvidia drivers for that matter - the problem
returns. My video card is a GeForce MX 440 by the way.

Looking at the PC's error log, I have spotted two errors
which come back every day, presumably during the startup
procedure. Transcripts can be seen below:

Event System Error:
The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during
its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070422 from line
44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tie r1
\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to report this error

VSS:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error
calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206.

No need to say that I am lost from this point. Would
these two errors be linked in any way to the startup
problem and potential video driver conflict? Where else
should I look?

Thanks for your help
Philippe

Hi,

It looks like you have the COM+ Event System service disabled.

BTW - did you disable this service (or other services) explicitely?
Can you give a list of the disabled services on your machine?

Thanks, Adi

I have been having this same issue recently with a geforce
4 ti 4200. Same errors same issue, same error log info.
Happens on a clean install of win XP pro, with current and
back drivers from nvidia. The only driver that seems to
take and work in normal operating mode is the one that is
loaded on windows setup. Any other attempt at a driver
upgrade will cause it to hang on the winxp proffessional
start up screen. The blue status line gets stuck. The
only way out of it is to go to safe mode and remove the
drivers, then you can boot normally. I would like to
install the new drivers or any fully functional nvidia
driver for that matter.

thanks
