Newly home made computer is created and Windows 2000 is installed. No service
packs are yet installed, and so programs are having problems being installed,
or installed with errors. For example, installing IE 6 has repeatedly crashed
and restarted a dozen times.
When trying to download the SP4 update to Win2000 with a 56K modem, several
retries of the Network Install Version (full 130Mb version) result in
corrupted or unusable downloads. The End User version download (30 Mb
version) allows the running of the program, but also does not complete update
repeatedly--fails to connect to the server.
There have been many sleepless nights, and I know a 56K modem is hardly good
for downloading, but there still shouldnt be this many problems, and am not
sure if DSL would work with this Win 2000 as it is now.
Am looking for first any non-download, low-download solutions first. But
also seek any advice on tips or ways to download the updates or install
programs properly.
Thanks
