I downloaded a file the other day and I think that it gave my PC a virus or
something, but my anti-virus didn't pick up on anything, in fact I've ran a
full system scan about 5 times, and nothing. Anyway, my main problem at first
was that my internet wouldn't dial up the right phone number, user name and
password, we got that sort of cleared up, but not entirely, the second main
problem I'm having is, in my picture folders, the thumbnail view is NOT
working, and neither is the flim strip, I have to click on the pictures to
see what they are, I've looked into a lot of stuff on my PC and can't figure
out how to fix that. I've tried switching from tiles, to details and back to
thumbnail view, but nothing works. and even new pictures I've saved since
then don't have thumbnail view. While searching for a way to fix this, I
found a place in my PC that says Event Veiwers, its a long list of I guess
all the events on the PC, and there are lots of them that say Error with a
red X next to them, and lots that say Warning with a yellow triangle. I am
not sure what most of these mean actually, and the most common programs to
have the error marks are called DCOMs, I have no idea what that is or means.
the most common to have warning marks are called tcpips, I again don't know
what that means. it also says theres something wrong with my CDROM. I really
do not know what I should do. I want to fix these things, but have no idea
how to. I was wondering if reinstalling Windows XP would help anything, or
should we just call our Dell Computer support and have someone come out and
fix it for us? I would appreciate ANY advice on this topic, thanks.

Sounds like you need a pro.

You could try reading the following articles
but I don't know if they will help:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

More info:

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list.

If you want the default...choose..."Windows
Picture and Fax viewer"

Once you make your selection...be sure to check
the box that says: "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

And the following links may be useful:
