say. I have even tried to clean install but vista turns off my keyboard and
mouse can anyone please please please help me iron this situation out i am
really at my wits end and about to frisbie the whole damn lot out the window

i have an asrock k7s8xe+ motherboard which passed the compatiabity test the
only thing that didn't pass which was some software ie messanger which i
removed for the the 3rd time after putting my xp tried clean install keep
getting this message any other ideas please

Hi,

The compatibility test catches known incompatibilities. It doesn't have any
AI that can catch things it doesn't know about. That board doesn't have any
BIOS or driver updates available that are less than 3 years old. ASRock
doesn't list Vista as a compatible OS for it, and I highly doubt that it is.
ASRock and Vista capable boards: http://www.asrock.com/news/vista.asp?p=2

I would try a clean installed to an empty volume as a test, but the error
indicates there is some basic hardware incompatibility. This is usually
caused by attempting to install it onto unsupported hardware.

Specifically, a 0x7B error means that the OS cannot work with your disk
controller (you get the error right after the reboot when it goes into
graphics mode?). Usually when this message comes up, there is a specific
driver that needs to be fed to vista (using the F6 key at the beginning of
the install).

If you cannot locate Vista drivers for your disk controller "anywhere on the
net" (not just the asrock site), consider purchasing a new PCI/PCIe
controller (whichever your board will support) that does have Vista driver
support, and then try the installation. A controller with viable drivers
should cost less than $20 US.

i have finally got the problem sorted and have returned vista back to the
store and got a full refund and will not be buying this product untill i but
myself a new pc with vista preinstalled as the headaches are a nightmare.
thankyou all for trying to help me with this problem

I believe the problem was that you tried to install Vista on a board that
was not on the HCL and which has no native device drivers for Vista.

Blame Microsoft ... Blame Vista ...

Put the blame everywhere but where it should squarely lay ... on your
shoulders.
