My version of office 2000 works fine on my desk top but when I go into my
little daughter desktop it keeps coming up with the message "Error 1706" and
it cannot find the office 2000 info. as I have moved house twice since I
bought Office 2000 I appear to have lost the disc and cannot update her
desktop in the usual way - i.e. by inserting the disc as requested. This is
spoiling my daughter's use of our home PC and I know that the info is in here
some where as (as I mentioned before) there are no errors in the version on
my desktop. What can I do? I am not technically minded and would much prefer
to download a simple answer than to recieve an enormous list of complicated
instructions, so please bear this in mind when reviewing my details.

Sorry, but without an Office 2000 disk of the same version of Office 2000,
there isn't much you can do. You may be able to contact MS to get a
replacement disk. I don't know what sort of information they would need to
do this or if they still have any Office 2000 disks available. If you
daughter is in school, you may want to consider the Office XP or Office 2003
Student and Teacher edition. You can find this in most computer stores (at
least the ones in my area) for under $150. It does not include Access
though. Also, Office 2003 will only run on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and
Windows 2003 Server. If you have Windows ME or Windows 98, you'll need the
Office XP version.

PS,

If your daughter doesn't have Admin privileges, try giving them to her then
attempt to open Office again. It may need the elevated privileges to set it
self up. Once this is done, you can probably remove the Admin privileges
again.

help m fix my problem with Error1706

Jeffery, we're not mind readers. You don't even say what program is giving you
this error. This newsgroup is for people writing VBA code in Access database
forms - I suspect that your problem lies elsewhere ("my disc is gone"??)

If you're having Windows problems, please post a comprehensible question in a
newsgroup for your particular version of Windows. If the problem is occuring
in Microsoft Access, please explain the context.
