Hello,
I just went through the process to fix error 0x80244029, and now I get
a new error, 0x80244028. I have already looked up this error and see that it
has to do with no authentication cookie being created. I also see that
someone else has this problem as well, but the only responder on that threat
was very rude and gave no help. Does anyone happen to know how this error
can be overcome? Thanks.

It looks like your getting updates through a corporate WSUS server not
directly from the Ms servers, judging by this error reference. If that's
not a correct interpretation let us know:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windo...01b0-4d47-abae-e77345ca974f1033.mspx?mfr=true

If that's a correct interpretation, I think your going to get a more expert
response by posting in these newsgroups as I don't think this group has
that expertise, but who knows, I could be surprised:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/topics/sus.mspx

About all I can do here as a home user is to point you to this generalized
article on using WSUS for Windows Defender updates:

....and one other thought on this error from Moe Green MVP...

"Do you have software that blocks or prevents Cookies ? If so, suggest
you disable it and then try to update Windows Defender once more.
BTW, are you attempting to update WD from within the program or by
visiting one of the update sites ?"

Hi Dave M,

With my notes

The decimal code error; point to SUS
0x80244028 -2145107928 SUS_E_PT_NO_AUTH_COOKIES_CREATED The client was
unable to create any valid auth cookies

The decimal code error; point to WU
0x80244029 -2145107927 WU_E_PT_INVALID_CONFIG_PROP One of the Config
ConfigurationProperty values was wrong

And your reference point both to WSUS.

Is getting confuse ;-)

I go for the Validation tool, and Moe Green sugestion.

ha, anything on vista being faster than light. windows defender has been
giving me issues updating too. it was gr8 for windows defender to not give
me a notice for not having received any updates for a month lol. i renamed
teh softwaredistrubition folder and received a different error code. at
least it allowed windows update to work to download new definitions. windows
defender went back to giving error 0x80244028.

Slowing down to under the sound barrier for a minute, let me also ask you
if this is this occurring in a corporate environment or on a home
system/network? Are you on a large, managed network, where access to
AutoUpdate is restricted? Is there a WSUS server on the network?

How about cookies? Do you have software that blocks or prevents cookies on
your system? That specific error hasn't been reported in this forum before
now, so in order to get any understanding of it, I think we need to
understand your environment before we can hope to make any headway on
helping you resolve this error.
