Error0X8000ffff:Catastrophic Failure

Unable to delete backup from Symantic online backup. Per Symantic tech have
configured Windows XP to clean boot then enable Symantec startup files for
Norton 360 2.0. Receiving the following error message: "Could not start the
com.host on local computer error 0X8000ffff: catastrophic failure". Symantec
tech advises it is Microsoft problem. Have searched MS error database and
been advised no error of this type/number exsists. What do I do?
 
Try booting to xp cd,recovery console,select 1 For C: Press enter for
password,
type:Fixboot Type:CHKDSK C: /p Once thru type:EXIT Let xp start,or to edit
running services in xp,type:listsvc Scroll thru the services,write down a
service
to "disable" for example,once thru,exit page,type:Disable Follow the
wizard &
edit,type:HELP For all cmds
