Hello,

I'm receiving error code 0x80245003 when Defender tries to run after
starting my computer. It's not running anymore and thus can not be updated.
Any ideas on what that means and how to fix it?

Thank you

Thanks,

'try to uninstall Windows Defender
Run CCcleaner
than download WD again and try a new install'

Can you help me with these steps?

If you are using xp you can uninstall it
I believe I read here you cannot uninstall WD in Vista but someone here can
correct me if i am wrong.
If I am correct you can download WD again and try to reinstall it over the
old one if WD will not uninstall.

Either one:
go into control panel add/remove programs and find Windows Defender and
uninstall it.
Pick up CCcleaner here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

on the right side in the green column you will see "Download Newist Version"
with a Large down green arrow
Save it to a folder on your HD or your desktop
Once it finished double click the setup file and it will start to install.
Please watch the install and when it gets to user intervention where you
need to put a bunch of check marks, uncheck to install the Yahoo Toolbar
then click next.
Click on the Cleaner Tab in the far left side of the program
Once it installs in the Windows Tab leave all the check marks but in System
uncheck windows log files.
In Advanced- only check Old Prefetch files, leave the rest blank.
In Applications tab: uncheck applications except Windows Defender (make sure
you uninstall WD first), do not check utilities nor Windows.

On the left side you will see Issues- then click that. Only use this one if
you are NOT on Vista since you might not be able to uninstall Windows
Defender
You need to be careful in there because it changes regisgtry files
for now click on Obsolete Software and MUI Cache and leave everything else
blank.
If windows defender comes up as obsolete software you can check that and
when it asks you to save it say yes.

Once you have done this-Download Windows defender again and try to install
it and see what happens.

Hopefully all will be well now.
