I had a odd problem with Microsoft Works that i finally narrowed down to
windows defender, sometimes when you click on opening a .xlr file for
microsoft works when windows defender is running it will say the following,
Cannot change the document C:\Docu...\filename.xlr The document is read-only
or is open by another user or application. To change this file, save it with
a different filename.
Sometimes it also says Cannot access the document C:\Docu...\filename.xlr
The document may already be open or it may be a read-only document.
The name and path may be invalid, the document may no longer exist, or it
may already be open. If you run Works from a network, you may have to wait
until someone else closes Works.
Anyhow I did have Microsoft Works 6.0 on the machine when the problem
started so i though it might have gotten corrupted so i figured it was time
for a upgrade so i put 8.0 then upgraded to 8.5 and still the same problem.
So i finally started disableling running programs untill i found out that
Windows Defender was the cause all along, now mind you this error isnt super
bad all you have to do is double click the file again and it usually will
open it up correctly, but it is annoying to say the least, Anyhow after i
figured out what was the problem I figured i would let someone else know,
hopefully this will be read by the guys working on defender.
