error window after system restore

I had to restore my comp to July 9 . After restart, a window says "Error.
Could not locate a valid definition file. Go to Program Options page and
click 'update definitions' to unload a definition file".
Well sounds easy, but where do I find the PROGRAM OPTION PAGE?
None of mine voluminous Win XP books are of help.
Thank you. Mab (please write in easy english, otherwise I cannot
distinguish from computarise and chinese).
 
Sounds like your AntiVirus software. Update it.

Definition file probably refers to virus definition files that all AntiVirus
software uses to search for viruses.

Security software, anti-virus or anti-spyware or something like that. Isn't
there a title bar on the window telling you which program is asking?
