Thanks for your time to read and help me with this problem i am having with
Movie Maker. I am so deeply sorry for the long message but i thought that if
i gave enough information that you could help me much more specifically. I am
currently running "WINDOWS XP SP1" with "MOVIE MAKER VERSION 2.0.3312.0". I
do not wish to update to "WINDOWS XP SP2" though. I have "C DRIVE" with a
capacity of 11.7GB with 6.41GB FREE. And a "D DRIVE" with a capacity of
45.5GB with 9.8GB FREE. I'm also running 512 MB RAM with a AMD ATHOLON XP
2800+ CHIP at 2.07GHZ.

I have recently created a video with images, subtitles (provided from the
program) and about 4 MP3 files. The file goes for about 22minutes and
everythings fine in the storyboard and timeline. Whilst trying to save my
movie file, i saved the movie at first with the option "BEST QUALITY FOR
PLAYBACK ON MY COMPUTER". Upon doing so, the program saves and does all the
stuff it needs to do. Now after whilst it is done, i try to view my video.
Sure, everything loads into WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER (i am running version 10).
But i get an ERROR, not an error saying that the file can't load, but while
during the movie, the pictures stop. They freeze, either they stay on one
picture, or it fades out (video transition) and stays all black. The music
plays but no imagery.

I have tried saving numerous times on other settings but this problem still
occurs. Because of the numerous files that i had incorporated into my video,
i deleted them from the collections as i put them into the video storyboard.
I remember getting a error from WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER saying that some files
werent there or something like that. I re-imported the files back into the
collection and try to save once again. But unfortunately this doesn't help
anything. The movie still has that awkward error and it comes up randomly
too, i've noticed the longer the images run for, the larger the file. For
example, the video ran for about 12 minutes and after the last frame, it just
froze on the frame. Leaving me with the picture and music still running. (the
picture is supposed to fade out [video transition] and go to the next one,
ETC) The file was about 90MB. Whilst saving the file again it went only up to
about 2minutes, the picture faded out to black and stayed black whilst the
music was still playing. This file was only about 40MB.

Please help me as i do not believe anything i am doing in the storyboard or
timeline is incorrect. I've had some previous past experience with "WINDOWS
MOVIE MAKER" making some short videos, and my longest ran for about 5
minutes. I really do appreciate all the help i can get. Thankyou so much.

We've seen other reports of this behaviour especially on timelines with a
lot of transitions.

We made a fix in Windows Movie Maker 2.1 within Windows XP SP2 so this
problem is far more unlikely to occur. If you don't want to install SP2 yet
you can also try the following workaround.

Sometimes just trying to save your movie again will work, as it doesn't
always repro 100% of the time. If in your case it is consistenly failing
then the other suggestion I have is to save your movie as a DV-AVI file
first. To do this, when you're on the Movie Settings page choose "Other
Settings" and select DV-AVI from the list (if Other Settings isn't visible
then click "Show more choices...").

Play back the resultant DV-AVI file to make sure that it's OK. If you want
to save it as a WMV file to save disk space you can then import the DV-AVI
file back into MovieMaker, drag it down to the timeline then publish it
again as a WMV file with your choice of profile.
Hope this helps
Cheers
