If you browse your way to c:\windows\repair\ have a look in there to see if
there is a autoexec.nt file there - if there is simply copy that file into
your c:\windows\system32\ directory.

If you don't have one in \repair\ post back and I'll post one up.

What specifications are your machine? If you're not sure how to find out
check out the following page;
http://windows.dasmirnov.net/guides/hardware.php

If you then post back what you've got we'll be able to point you in the
right direction of updating drivers (which are little pieces of software
that let Windows and the game know how to use the hardware in your machine)
which is generally the most common reason for issues with gaming.

There's a few other things to try as well, make sure you're logged on your
machine as an administrator as a lot of games have issues with limited
accounts. Generally the default account that came with the machine will
have admin rights.

Also try shutting down software running in the background, virus scanners
etc.

If you post back with some more info and such we'll try and narrow down the
problem.

Paul - I have Windows XP. When we first got this pc, I installed Microsoft
Home Publishing 2000 on it, with no problem. Sometime thereafter, it would
only work when I was signed on. The rest of the time it would give the error
that John mentions below. Also, I could not install any other games. I am
assuming at one time that autoexec.nt was in the correct file or I wouldn't
have been able to download the home publishing. Incidentally, what you
suggested worked, and I was able to load my game. I just wondered what your
theory was on how that file was removed from where it should have been in the
first place.
