Error when setting an account as deafult

I have 3 emails account on my profile on an Outlook 2003. I try to change
the default account but when I click the Set As Default button, I get this
error:

There was an error locating one of the items needed to complete this
operation. It might have been deleted.

I get around this by deleting all other accounts except the one I want to
set as default and then set them up again. I however like to know if there
is something wrong with my Outlook settings that prevents my from setting an
account as a default by just clicking the button.
 
You might want to try creating a new profile from scratch, and deleting the
old one.
