Error when installing software

I get and error when I try to install new programs. It is:

Please re-install the module in the directory System32: USER.EXE.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

This is an NTVDM error message? Is this an older program that you're trying
to install? Have you tried installing using the Application Compatibility
Wizard or checked for an update for version of the program that is
specifically for XP?

If the program offers two different setups - one for Win9x/ME and one for
Win2000 - try the Win2000 setup.
