I am unable to complete installation of Service Pack 1,
receiving the message "Access Denied" at the end of the
set up. This is failing whether I try to install from the
website or the CD which Microsoft supply.

Does anyone have any possible fixes for this please?

thank you

Perhaps it is not recognizing your copy of Windows XP as
being legitimate. It is my understanding that Windows
will not allow installation of Service Pack 1 on pirated
copies of the operating system.

Thanks for this suggestion - this might be the case - I
recently performed a Windows repair using the Windows XP
CD which I'd originally been supplied by my computer
manufacturer & using the original Product Key - however
this computer was "dead on arrival", & the company had to
send out a replacement with Windows pre-loaded but without
the XP disc. In other words, the disc I used for the
Repair isn't the same disc as would have been used to
install Windows by the manufactuer on my replacent PC.

Do you think this could be causing the problem ie: related
to using different Product Key?

In all probability, this is the cause of installation of
SP1 failure.
My suggestion would be to compare the Product Key number
in your computter's registry. If the repair operation
has caused that number to change to the one you entered
when you made the repair, you need to contact the
manufacturer and request help from them. Sometimes the
number they use to install an operating system is not the
one you would use as the owner. If that is the case with
your OS, you would have to seek help from them anyway.

To view the key number in your registry, go here for a
download file:

Hope this helps.
