Dan

I am running a Windows 2003 Server using it as a Terminal Server. I am
trying to install Backup software but fails because it cannot install the
..net framework. I currently have version 2 installed. So, I downloaded the
3.5 version from MS website and it fails as well. So I know its not a
problem with the backup software. There I am getting is "The Windows
Installer package: C:\dcb45ajklj24j2h34\vs_seetup.ms_ could not be opened.
Choose Retry to train again. Choose Cancel for exit setup. I am logged in
the computer locally and also tried to run the program through Add/Remove
Programs. When I try to do a Windows Update with the .Net 3.5 Update it will
run for several hours...

The only thing I have not done yet was uninstall the current version of .net
2.0 but I'm affraid I won't get it back on as our primary software
application requires it. Any suggestions?

I hope somebody else can offer you a suggestion to et 3.5 installed, but do
NOT uninstall 2.0! As you say, you have an important app that uses it, plus
3.0 and 3.5 are add-ons to 2.0, not full versions, so you need 2.0 *and*
3.5.

Hi Dan,

I agree with PvdG42 not to make any changes to the v2 since your
applications depend on it as well as .NET Framework 3.5 itself.

I don't know what type of the setup you were using (the bootstrapper that
downloads required files on the fly during installation or the full
package), but it sounds like to me that the file is corrupted.

Could you try the following:

1. Go to the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 download page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-
8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en

2. Download and run the bootstrapper, see if it works.

3. Or, you can download the full package (there is a Full Package link on
the webpage), and run it with /extract parameter to extract the contents to
verify the package is not corrupted during download.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Jie Wang

Thanks for the input. I am downloading the full version of 3.5 now. I will
have to get back with you later since this has to be done after hours.
Thanks again for your help!
