First thing I would check is if your device drivers are
all up to date. Type msinfo32 in the run box and choose OK
and look at your forced hardware and make sure there is
none. If you have another drive too use try that if you
don't go to the manufacturer's home site(the one who made
your drive)check their knowledge base to check for
incompatabilities with XP and the drive. A little heads up
that not all manufacture's test their devices for every
type of setup.Until resently most name brand computer
manufactures didn't make their machines to run with other
manufactures devices ex.. dell,gateway,hp and compaq they
want you bye their devices.Ain't that great! In your
device manager would be where I would start to see if
device drivers are up to date.
