I'm have problems when closing certain webpages in FP. I
recent bought the book Step-by-Step for FP 2002 to help
learn the program. But while using the sample webs when
open the pages it works fine but when closing the
individual pages the message
"Microsoft FrontPage has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

When working on pages from scratch. I did not have this
problem. However, when I added a Web component - Link
Bar. It did the same thing. But i'm not sure if that would
be the problem. Just an observation that I gathered. I
have updated both SP1 and SP2 just to se that would do
anything. No good, they were already installed prior
apparently. Also been scanning for what this could be. Any
ideas?

Help would be greatly appreciated, due to that fact I
can't use the book to teach my self because of the this
problem.
Thanks.

Have you tried the usual repairs
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file CMDUI.PRF
4) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
5) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP & IE
6) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, and MS Office

I think i've narrowed it down to the navigation/link
bar. Every time I load it on a page I'm building it
causes it to crash.
Questions concerning the 1-4. What would these steps
accomplish when I do those. As for 5-6 Yes i have done
those.

So it's not just me!! It seems like the longer I use
Front Page, the more prone it is to this type of
behavior. Some days, it has required shutting down once
every half hour and that's unacceptable. There is no
information on the support website.

What are the FrontPage temp files? I'm not familiar with
those.

Thanks,

Is this the way Microsoft like to run things?

1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
- like any other programs old temp files can cause problems or conflict w/ current page content, and should be deleted periodically

2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
- web cache files can become corrupt if you terminate FP or a web publishing event w/o a proper closure

3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file CMDUI.PRF
- restores the default menu / tool bar which can become corrupt by Addins or modifications you make

4) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
- Addins can be corrupt or unsupported by your FP version

For nav bar problems, Do at least 1, 2 & 4 and then Open your web to Nav View and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

Clean up you system periodically and you should not have FP errors
- also always close your FP webs and FP properly
