Almost every time I close IE (whether via the x at the top right, or through 'file'...'close') I get an error message that says "Internet Explorer has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Internet Explorer will now close. If you continute to receive this error, try restarting your computer.

The only button on the error box is the close button, but when I click it, the box keeps coming back. Control Alt Delete doesn't work and when I click 'Start....Shutdown', I get 'program not responding' and click 'End Task' then everything freezes up and I have to manually hit the power button to turn off the computer (which initiates Scandisk on startup).

What's going on??

Jen,
Another program is interfering with IE- possibly an adware, spyware,
parasite program.
See:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, security,
anti-virus, etc. Also... notorious for causing problems- Gator, Kazaa and
some others.

There are other possibilities for KERNEL32 errors:
