Hi All,

I am using windows xp home sr3. I keep getting an svchost.exe error when I
start my computer. I checked the event log and get a warning. Here is the
message I get:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: EvntAgnt
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1015
Date: 11/8/2009
Time: 8:40:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: GARYMETZLER
Description:
TraceLevel parameter not located in registry; Default trace level used is
32.

Can anything be done to fix this problem? Thanks for any help.

it is likely a third party program
that is trying to load that is causing
the issue.

try booting into safe mode and
see if your system is fault free.

If this just recently happened, and assuming you don't know what happened to
cause this and don't want to spend a bunch of time debugging it, the easiest
solution might be System Restore:

So, can you use System Restore to roll back to the time prior to when this
happened? (if in doubt when, take an earlier point in time) (if you do,
anything you've installed since that time point would have to be
reinstalled, of course)

Hi,

this has been going on for quite a while. I don't think a system restore
will help.

Hi DB,

Thanks for that suggetstion. Unfortunately I am blind and use a screen
reader. It doesn't work in safe mode. No sound drivers are loaded at that
time.

It is not a third party program, booting in Safe Mode will not fix it
(and if it changed what would you do next) and I don't see how System
Restore might help maybe if you don't mind losing things.

It means that the SNMP components are installed on your system but
have not been configured.

When SNMP tries to start with no configuration details, it tells you
the parameters it is looking for are not located in the registry where
they should be so it defaults.

TraceLevel parameter not located in registry; Default trace level used
is 32.

The error makes sense.

This is usually accompanied by this additional warning of missing
configuration data:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: EvntAgnt
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1003
Description:
TraceFileName parameter not located in registry; Default trace file
used is .

Most home environments don't need SNMP, but it may have been installed
for a reason or by accident.

You can configure it is happy with what valid registry parameters, you
can locate the two SNMP services that are not working at all and set
them to disabled instead of Automatic (which is why you see the
warnings on every boot) or you can uninstall SNMP which will remove it
from services all together.

It is not working anyway, so if there is no compelling reason to keep
it, uninstall SNMP from Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components,
uncheck Managing and Monitoring tools, etc. It is a waste of
otherwise useful system resources.

What's your pleasure?

Some of this is not quite adding up, so please provide more
information.

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste
the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name), and whatever appears to
be private information to you, just delete from the pasted
information.

This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork and
assumptions.
