Xavier

Hello,

When I log on to XP Home on my profile, the program
detects an error because it cannot find or load a program
in c:\windows\system32\mdmdll32.exe

Can anyone help me to sort out this system error.

Thank you

Regards

Hi Xavier,

What does your antivirus software logs tell you? I suspect you contracted a
trojan file, and your antivirus software detected and removed it. Problem
is, it did it after it had infected your system. Start/run msinfo32, expand
the software environment and click on the startup programs. Look for a line
that loads mdmdll32,exe (which, by the way, is not a windows file, it's more
likely that the file was given this name to make it appear to be a
legitimate system file). Make note of where it is loading from, as this will
tell you where you need to go to remove the reference. If you are unsure of
how to proceed, please post back with the loading location for further
assistance.

Hello
Thank you a lot for you help
But I am not very sure what to do next. Hence I have
copied below the two messages where MDMDll32 is present.

Hi,

Click start/run, enter "win.ini" and look for a line that reads something
like:

run=mdmdll32.exe

Remove it, then click file/save and close. See if this resolves it.

Hi Xavier,

It's not bother, trust me. I, and most of the others here, do this because I
like to.

Ok, then let's look at something else. Check your startup folders for
shortcuts:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If not here, then we can hunt & peck into the registry, but I don't suspect
we will need to.

Hi,

Ok, let's use a more methodical approach, try the steps here:

Hi Rick
Thank you for your reply

So I had look at the two folders mentionned below.
In the first one, I have found two shortcuts : one for
Logitech Desktop messenger and Winzip Quick Pick.

In the other folder, there is nothing. It is empty.

Does it help you ?

Thank you

Kind regards

Hi Xavier,

It's not bother, trust me. I, and most of the others
here, do this because I
like to.

Ok, then let's look at something else. Check your
startup folders for
shortcuts:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup

If not here, then we can hunt & peck into the registry,
but I don't suspect
we will need to.

Hi,

Click start/run, enter "win.ini" and look for a line
that reads something
like:

run=mdmdll32.exe

Remove it, then click file/save and close. See
if
this
resolves it.

Hi Xavier,

What does your antivirus software logs tell you? I
suspect you contracted a
trojan file, and your antivirus software detected
and
removed it. Problem
is, it did it after it had infected your system.
Start/run msinfo32, expand
the software environment and click on the startup
programs. Look for a line
that loads mdmdll32,exe (which, by the way,
is
not
a
windows file, it's more
likely that the file was given this name to make it
appear to be a
legitimate system file). Make note of where
it
is
loading from, as this will
tell you where you need to go to remove the
reference.
If you are unsure of
how to proceed, please post back with the loading
location for further
assistance.
