Error: RPC server is unavailable

I am using Acronis True Image (v7.0) on an XP MCE system with a FAT32 drive;
when I try to make an incremental backup the following error is displayed:

E00640068: Failed to create the scheduled task
Failed to create the scheduled task. Error #1722 - "The RPC server is
unavailable."

and my only option is to press the "OK" button.

I made a full disk image one month ago without problem, it's the incremental
backup that's now causing trouble.

MSKB article Q224370 addresses the issue but I do not understand the
"resolution" beyond the first step. The hard disk has three partitions: c,
d, and hidden; I'm attempting to image c onto d so there should not be a
connection issue.

Help will be gratefully received.
