Error reinstalling XP HOME

My computer had the blaster worm. After deleting it, i can't run windows. It just keeps shutting down even if i try to go in safe mode. I tryed to reinstall XP and after a couple of minutes i get a message saying "An error has been detected and windows has been shut down...... REGISTRY_ERROR" no new hardware has been installed. How can i install XP again??? Could a harddisk-killer and then install XP be a way to go??? Thank u
