"error reading file"

Front Page has worked perfectly for me the last 3 years, but now when I click
on my index file I get "error reading file". I have tried deleting this file
and downloading from remote to local to replace this corrupted? file. The
home page opens fine and works fine on the web, but I still cannot open it on
my computer. Please help!
 
Have you tried the usual repairs
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file CMDUI.PRF
4) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
5) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP & IE


You can also get FP Cleaner at http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm
which will do most of this for you.

appreciate more of your brainpower....

It loads, but takes forever
The home page is huge - it has over 15 MB of images
Plus you have html lines that are over 5500 characters long
Recommend you rebuild the page from scratch
- w/o the absolute positioning and w/o the JAVA hover buttons

More importantly before you do anything
Resize your images (to reduce file size) in an image editor and reimport them into your site
- and remove all space from all file names
