Error: ox800c0005; can't update, WEB pages cannot be displayed

Wow, my new XP (hope this wasn't a mistake) won't display
a page when I click on a link on Internet Explorer, won't
complete updates. Per a posting on here earlier which I
can't find now, I reinstalled XP using the update
approach. Still can't load updates or pages. Help. I
was able to download the blaster worm. That didn't help.
