Error opening some messages in a PST in Outlook 2003

Received the following error when opening some messages in an Outlook PST file:

"This item was created using a Microsoft Outlook [0]. Please upgrade to the
newer version."

Originally had this error on a message in Outlook 97. I then copied the
message and sent it to another computer using Outlook 2003 and get the same
error. I have never seen this before. Anyone have experience with this?

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against the .PST file to see if it finds
any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and run it.
Allow the program to make a backup of your file before it makes any changes.

Hi Jocelyn,

Thank you for the reply. I actually copied one of the damaged files to a new
PST and did exactly what you said. It scans the PST with the one message in
it and finds errors, but apparently doesn't do a very good job at fixing it
as it seems to just delete the message and then recreate it in a folder
called "Recovered Personal Folders", but I get the same error when I try to
open the email again after it has been repaired and recovered.

I'm not sure if you can repair just one damaged message. However, there are
some more ideas for fixing .PST file problems here:
