error opening an old PST file

I have an old pst file that's a little over 300 mb. When
In try bto open it in Outlook 2002 I get and error

old.pst is not a personal folders file.

What happens when you run the Inbox Repair Tools (scanpst.exe) against
[a copy of] the old.pst file? Any errors?
