I have a Plextor DVDR PX-716A ATA Device and a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M612 ATA
Device on my PC. I upgraded the machine from XP Pro sp2 yesterday. I've
had just a continuous string of issues but seem to have them almost all
cleared up now. However, I wanted to use an installation CD a few minutes
ago and discovered that the two CD/DVD devices aren't working. They don't
even show up on the My Computer explorer anymore.
I went in to device manager and there's the little yellow exclamation mark
on both of them. In the device status box of their properties it says:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration
information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and
to see if there is a solution available.
I checked online but as with most every other problem I've had there was
nothing there. I looked at the application and system events but nothing
jumped out at me.
I would have gone back to a restore point when they were working but one of
the problems I had caused Vista to set up a second system volume. The
restore setting was still trying to create the store point on the old
non-existent drive so I've got diddly for backup right now.
I've uninstalled both devices and then scanned and automatically installed,
them, hoping that it would correct whatever the registry issue was. It had
no effect.
Any idea what error code 19 is and what I need to do in order to get this
resolved?
Thanks in advance,
Howard
