This problem is typically caused by a problem with the System hive of the
Registry. You may be able to follow the steps under the section entitled
"Restore a Backup of the System Hive" in Knowledge Base article 269075 Error
Message: Windows Could Not Start Because the Following File Is

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=269075) to get your system to boot, but
you may experience problems with some applications and services. However,
you should be able to back up your data.
