error ntoskrnl.exe

When I boot up my computer I see the following error:
Windows 2000 could not start because the following file
is missing or corrupt: <windows 2000 root>\system32
\ntoskrnl.exe

Can someone help me with a fix? I have access to the
internet but the computer I am using is windowsXP. Can I
download the service pack on this computer and it not
mess up my computer because its XP? I can burn the file
onto CD.

Seems like you have (or had) dual boot of win2000 and XP.
Get a bootable XP setup disk (or find on internet how to burn it) on and run recovery.
