Cher

HI, we have 3 home computers all using win2000. We connect
with a Netgear hub. The internet works fine for all of us.
I can share files with my laptop and visa versa, but my
laptop and desktop cannot share with my boyfriends
computer (the third computer). He looked on micosoft Help
but couldn't find anything, so I'm trying this.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks

Thanks Marina; We are all in the workgroup
called "WORKGROUP"; in Windows Explorer, when I try to
access WORKGROUP through Network > Entire Network >
Microsoft Windows Network > Workgroups, when I click on
Workgroups, I receive a similar message: Workgroup is not
accessable . . . Network Path not found.

Also, is "got file- and printsharing": We have file
sharing checked (with D$ as the drive), but where is
printsharing?

Thanks.

Cher:

You don't have to turn on "file & printer sharing" in W2K.
That's 20th Century stuff from Win9x.

You DO have to have all computers in the same workgroup -
which you do and you MUST have all users setup on each
computer with the same password on each computer for
convenience. So, Cher/PW:xxx must be a user on all 3
computers; Boyfriend/PW:yyyy must be a user on all 3
computers and Fido/PW:zzzz must be a user on all 3
computers, etc.

Then for your shared resource (hard drive in this case) do
NOT use the default D$ share. Create a new share with a
clever name like "D-Drive" and share it for anyone with
full privileges, no passwords.

Finally, make sure all computers are in the same subnet
(255.255.255.0) and have IP Addresses within the same
range (192.168.1.#) where # is unique to each computer.

This should get your network going and you and Sonny can
sing happily into the sunset. :-)

Aloha,
Miles
