ERROR, MISSING OR CORUPT SYSTEM32\HAL.DLL

getting this error, says to reinstall, I have an HP ps,
when I try to do a restore that does not work either, any
help would be appreciated.

Hmm... HAL = Hardware abstarction Layer. Deals with your hardware. Is the hardware the same as it was when you got the PC? If it is you could possibly boot to a dos prompt and copy the HAL.DLL from the recovery disk and place it in the c:\winnt\system32 folder and replace if asked. You did not mention what File systemyou are using( ie... FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS etc.) If oyu are using NTFS you will need a NTFS dos reader.
