error messages

When trying to use a shortcut i get the following error message. "This file has no program associated with it to preform this action." HELP !! I have also noticed that my shortcut names have all been renamed to URL and .com etc. How do i fix this? I tried fixing it in folder options but i dont know what program to associate the files with

Drop by Doug's page, below, and click on XP-FIXES.

In the righthand column click on "Restore default file associations
easily", and see what that does for you.

I tried the easy restore defaults that you reccommended and it made no difference. Also went to your site and downloaded the thing you have on there for restoring the file associations that came with Windows XP. Still didnt fix it. I am technology challenged so i am not quite sure what to do now. Plz help!!!!

Is this just one particular shortcut? What is it supposed to be a shortcut
to? More complete information is needed.
 
It happens on all my desktop shortcuts that go to web pages,etc.

Hi Jenn:

open up the properties page of one of the shortcuts and
check the file extension of the url. You may have to
associate that file extension with your internet browser.
