Error messages

HELP!!! I'm freaking out....I keep getting the error
message: "Sorry Micrsoft has encountered a problem and
must be shut down" ....then another box comes up and
says "IExplore....This program has performed an illeagle
function and will be shut down. I can't get rid of these
boxes!! I have windows 98 and Service pack 6. Can't wait
the hours Microsoft wants me to be on hold for an answer
(actually, already tried them and they guy couldn't help &
put me back on hold endlessly for somebody else....any
ideas gratefully accepted
