I have Office 2000. Since I have upgraded from windows 98 to Windows XP I get an error message in outlook when I right click to paste something or sometimes if I try to change the format. It then will say send error message and closes out of outlook, loosing my message. Also I am not able to do any updates. I get the message "Unable to check for updates on this computor." If I do download an update, It isn't able to be installed.

What is the exact error message you get?

Also note that updating Windows 98 to Windows XP isn't really trouble free
(or at least my experiences with it). This is because of the different
(system) file locations between Windows 98 and Windows XP.

Whenever I right click while writing an e-mail message Everything halts and the message says: "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Then it gives you the option to send an error report to microsoft. Don't know if this is of any use but on error report it says error signature app name: outlook.ex
app versuib 9.0.0.2416 Mod name outllib.dll mod ver 9.0.0.2711 offset 000834e

What bothers me more is that I can not do any upgrades to outlook. When I try to check for the downloads from microsoft, it stops at 61% and says Error! unable to check for updates on this computer. This may be happening because of one of the following reasons: (This is the entire message given
.. you do not have administrative privileges for this computer. (I am the only user
.. There is a network problem and the detection catalog used by the Office Update site failed to download. Go bak tothe Downloads home page and try running detection again. ( I did this several times
.. Windows Installer patch files (.MSPfiles) from previouslyapplied office updates are missing from the \windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation completes because they need to be referenced for future update opperations. If the files are misssing you will not be able to apply office updates. You may also be unable to uninstall office products as a result of the same problem. Please contact Microsoft Product support for assistance
.. You installed Office updates in the past and then upgraded from windows Installer version 1.0 to windows Installer version 1.1. For more information see the KB article Windows Installer May Prompt for Install Source if Unavailable
